Tephrocactus articulatus var. diadematus - Spruce Cone Cactus
Tephrocactus articulatus var. diadematus is a unique cactus that forms a small, upright shrub out of segments that look remarkably like spruce cones. The segments are a dull greyish-brown and connect loosely, often falling off to root nearby. This is a normal part of its growth and propagation strategy.
The most distinctive feature of this variety is its spines, which are flattened and papery, almost like ribbons. It's a slow grower that usually adds just a few new "cones" each year. As a native of the dry hills of Western Argentina, it is very tolerant of sun and heat and is known for being an especially easy cactus to grow.
