Opuntia monacantha f. monstruosa variegata, or 'Joseph's Coat,' is a uniquely sculptural cactus prized for its vibrant, shifting colors. This is a naturally occurring variegated plant, and its smooth, flattened pads are marbled in a wild mix of creamy white, yellow, green, and pink. The 'monstruosa' part of its name refers to its wonderfully distorted and unpredictable growth habit, which creates a one-of-a-kind shape.

This easy to grow Opuntia grows in a shrubby, freely branching form and is surprisingly fast-growing. Its spines are tiny and hair-like, making it much easier to handle than many of its relatives.
