Mammillaria elongata 'Copper King'
Mammillaria elongata 'Copper King' is a popular and very attractive cultivar of the classic 'Lady Finger' cactus. Its standout feature is the beautiful coppery-orange color of its spines.
The spines are arranged in a pectinate, or comb-like, fashion and tend to point sideways against the stem, making it less pokey to handle than many other cacti. It grows in clusters of slender, cylindrical, finger-like stems that can reach about 6 inches tall. This cultivar clusters freely and will form a large, impressive clump over time. In the spring, it can produce a ring of small, pale yellow or pinkish flowers near the crown of each stem. It is a relatively fast grower and one of the easier cacti to cultivate, making it a rewarding plant for any collection.
