Gonialoe variegata - Tiger Aloe
Gonialoe variegata, also well-known by its former name Aloe variegata, is a classic species often called Tiger Aloe or Partridge-breasted Aloe. It is prized for its unique and highly structured form. The leaves grow in a distinct three-ranked, fan-like rosette. Each leaf is V-shaped in cross-section, like the keel of a boat, with smooth margins. The dark green leaves are marked with transverse bands of squarish white blotches, giving the plant a striking checkerboard look.
Native to South Africa and Namibia, this is a small, stemless succulent that offsets from the base to form mounded clumps over time. In late winter or spring, it can produce a stalk of tubular, salmon-pink flowers. It is known for being a robust and easy-to-grow plant that tolerates lower light conditions better than many other succulents, making it a great houseplant.
