Monadenium ritchiei
Monadenium ritchiei (now often reclassified as Euphorbia ritchiei) is a fascinating succulent from Kenya known for its unique appearance. It forms a clump of thick, fleshy, cylindrical stems that are covered in a prominent tessellated pattern, resembling cobblestones or the skin of a reptile.
Fleshy, tear-drop shaped leaves sprout from the apex of each segment during the growing season. These leaves are deciduous, meaning the plant will often drop them during winter dormancy, leaving the beautifully textured stems bare. It grows from a tuberous root system and will form a dense, mounding clump over time.
