Gasteria carinata
Gasteria carinata is a classic species from the Western Cape of South Africa, where it often grows in the shade of other shrubs. The specific name 'carinata' means "keeled" and refers to the triangular, boat-keel shape of the leaves. This particular form has long, slender, dark green leaves covered in slightly raised white dots.
It's a very variable species in the wild. Young plants start with their leaves arranged in two opposite rows (distichous), but as they mature, they fill out into a fuller rosette. It's a stemless plant that offsets from the base to form a dense and handsome clump over time.
