Ariocarpus retusus

While retusus is the fastest growing and easiest to care for of the Ariocarpus species, it is still a very slow grower. These are native to Mexico where they grow on rocky limestone slopes. Retusus has wide grey-green leaves with a cottony fluff growing from the center. Below the soil there is a very thick tuber. They put out a pretty white flower in the fall. These can become quite impressive plants over time.
